Environmentalist and designer Niani Phillips shares how she is staying true to her self and art through her company – Not Your Normal Denim. Niani shares the details of her #dreamdriving journey and the lessons she has learned building her brand from the ground up by raising awareness of sustainability in the fashion industry.
More on Niani:
Niani Phillips is a 24-year-old environmental activist from
Bethesda, Maryland who is making waves in fashion by
creating upcycled products with recycled denim. Niani’s
roots in sustainable fashion trace back to her childhood
when she learned to create duct tape bags. While
researching new materials, she was intrigued by the
impact of denim on the environment due to the large
amounts of water it takes to create one pair of jeans
(nearly 1,800 gallons!). Determined to make an impact,
she created her website, Not Your Normal Denim, to
demonstrate that better quality clothing can be made
from recycled products with less textile waste.
